Group 5 discusses the making sense question at the bottom of page PEF-7 (KE comparison). Renee talks in terms of the cars hitting each other with more contact—what she can observe. Emily and Sarah then answer in terms of energy conservation ideas (but without using the term 'energy conservation').

[Prior to this video clip Group 5 had discussed CQ 1-4 and most chose B since they were thinking about the hand pulling back the elastic—although the question asks them to consider what happens after the hand lets go. However just as they were recording their choices Emily realized that cannot be right since the question is talking about the period after the hand lets go.] Then they watch the instructor show the class histogram results. Renee is very surprised that most students had chosen D and not B. Renee is confused and Emily and Sarah explain what is happening (that it's AFTER the hand lets go). Then the instructor asks a student in the class why B is not a good choice and the student explains very nicely the difference between choices B and D. [While she is talking Emily continues to explain the same thing to Renee.]
