UCR L4 Video Clip 1: Group discusses last two making sense questions about rusting—Part 1 of 4
Group has a long discussion about the first making sense question on CR-34 about whether the thermal energy of the surroundings increased or decreased during the rusting of the steel wool. First Sam says it increased because the temperature increased and Gabby and Hannah agree. Danielle says she's confused about what the temperature is measuring—the system or the surroundings. Gabby tries to explain but Danielle is still unsure.
UCR L4 Video Clip 6: Group discusses last making sense question about Alka-Seltzer™ reaction
After agreeing that the thermal energy of the surroundings had decreased (the previous making sense question) the group discusses whether energy was transferred from the chemical system to the surroundings or vice versa. Sam presents her response but Gabby is confused. Danielle tries to clarify. The group is a little unsure about what kind of energy (e.g. thermal) increases in the system. [Later when they look at the energy diagrams for CQ 4-2 they note that 'increase in energy' is appropriate.]
