UM A1 Video Clip 1: Group 3 discusses intermediate model
Group 3 answers the question in Step 3. They pull on three strings and try to understand the behavior. One member suggests that it is consistent with her previous idea that all the strings are connected together inside the tube.
UM A1 Video Clip 2: Group 3 discusses final model
Group 3 discusses their final model for Step 5. (This is before building it in Step 6). They have decided that all four strings must be connected in some way but are not sure how. Chelsea had previously suggested a sort of 'pole' inside the tube to which all the strings are tied. They seem to think the strings cannot simply be tied together and Anna suggests a model in which two strings are entwined together. (It seems Emma may have seen something similar made using small pasta tubes – this could work if the two strings are both passed through the same pasta tube!)
UM A1 Video Clip 3: Class discusses Summarizing Question S3
This shows a technique (sometimes called a 'gallery walk') that can be used to share ideas among the whole class. Each group draws their final model on a whiteboard and leaves one member to explain it. The rest walk around the room looking at and asking questions about other group's models. After this the instructor prompts the class to decide on a criterion for deciding if a model is 'good'.
