UM L3 Video Clip 3: Group 2 discusses initial model
Group 2 discusses their initial models. Each student in the group has an alignment-type model. Nikki talks about how she was influenced by the simulation they explored as part of the previous homework (UM Ext A). Although their model has many features of the alignment model they still think something switches in the middle of the nail when it becomes magnetized.
UM L3 Video Clip 4: Group 1 discusses revised model
Group 1 discusses how to revise their model after seeing both videos. One student suggests after rubbing the N and S are scattered 'but in an organized way' so after cutting 'you still get the same (N&S) in each piece.' Veronica draws a model that has increasing number of either N's or S's as you go from one end of the nail to the other. Hence no matter where you cut it you still have some of each type in each piece.
